An agent is a system that decides what to do next based on what it finds, rather than following one fixed rule.
An agent evaluates the information in front of it and chooses an action, instead of executing the same fixed step every time. A lead-qualification agent, for example, might read a new inquiry, check it against real criteria, and decide whether to route it as a priority call or a standard follow-up, then keep tracking it until it is resolved.
